Description: An artist’s single strongest tool is a network of friends, collaborators, and organizations which create a community of support. As artists with limited time and budgets, we need smart strategies for building and nurturing community. The internet offers many social tools to create and nurture a supportive network, while also providing innovative ways to generate revenue.

Objective: The goal is for participants to leave this workshop with a simple marketing plan that includes one new community-building or sales strategy that can be implemented immediately.

Bio for Carla Lynne Hall, Course Creator and Leader
Carla Lynne Hall is a singer, songwriter, and music marketing specialist based in New York City. Her mission is to make music, and share knowledge with other artists. Hall’s compositions address themes of loyalty, temptation, loss, and rebirth, and she has released three CDs on her own label, Moxie Entertainment.

Carla has performed nationally and internationally for over 20 years as a singer/songwriter and professional vocalist. Hall has also spent over 10 years working behind the scenes in the music industry, and sharing information through articles, books, and lectures. She is the founding music industry columnist of “The Biz” column for VIBE Magazine. She is the author of The DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Guide to the Music Biz and Twitter for Musicians. She is the co-author of The Musician’s Roadmap to Facebook and Twitter with online music publicist Ariel Hyatt.

Carla is also a Course Leader for the “Internet for Artists” workshop, which was created by Creative Capital, a division of the Andy Warhol Foundation. Creative Capital’s Professional Development Program was launched in 2003 to share with a broader community of artists the tools and strategies for improved self-sufficiency that were initially developed for grantees.

Carla also has a popular blog and podcast for musicians at http://RockStarLifeLessons.com. Over the past 15 years, she has parlayed her internet fame into four indie CDs, three books, an international tribe of friends, followers, and fans, and a new TV Show, Carla Lynne Hall: Music Trekker, on Time Warner Cable in New York City.
